Goddesses have always been a favorite subject to paint. And I'm always trying to think of new ways to paint a goddess figure. Typically, I like a voluptuous, curvy look, and while I was sketching this painting I noticed the curves really started to look like hearts. Idea - Goddess of Love?

I went with my instincts and just painted these fabulous thick red hearts, using several reds and some yellows. As I made my way to the head... well... initially I "messed up" and made the spiral too large (proportionally). I scraped away the red, but the impression remained. I set the painting aside for a few days to meditate on it. In passing, I realized that the upper "messed-up" spiral kind of looked like the halos on religious paintings I'd seen of the Virgin Mary. Thus, Secret Mary was born.

I've added additional photos below for alternate angles and detail. The painting continues on the edges of the canvas.
